Registering to use the Edinburgh University Wireless Network

All users must comply with the Computing Regulations of the University of Edinburgh.
A copy of the Computing Regulations is available locally on the Registration Server at https://vpnreg.ucs.ed.ac.uk/admin/compregs.pdf

University Members and registered Visitors

If you are a Student, member of Staff or are registered as a Visitor with the Visitor Registration scheme (VRS), then you will have a University Username (UUN).
This is the username you will use for the Wireless/VPN/LapLAN2 services.

You will need to set a password to use these services and the link to load the page to set the password is given below.
Please note that when you attempt to load this page, you will be first redirected to the EASE authentication service - the reduced sign-on service of the University of Edinburgh.
If you have not already registered with EASE, click   here   to do so, then you can register for the Wireless/VPN/LapLAN2 service.

If you have already registered for the Wireless/VPN/LapLAN2 service but have forgotten your password, then simply register once again.

Please note that some of the Visitor categories are only entitled to a subset of these services. You will be informed which services you are entitled to use on the completion of the registration process.

Visitors from other eduroam institutions

You may authenticate using your eduroam credentials using SSID eduroam

Guests of the University

People who are not University staff or students and who are visiting the University for educational or research purposes may also be registered to use the Wireless service.

This may be done by any member of staff by visiting https://vpnreg.ucs.ed.ac.uk/ease/staffguestreg.cgi.
The member of staff creating the guest account must take resposibility for the network activity of their guest and must make their guest aware of the University Computing Regulations.

These accounts have a maximum duration of 7 days and have an autogenerated password with the user details and instructions displayed on the screen for local printing.

If a guest expects to stay longer than this then they should be assigned a UUN by the Visitor Registration System (VRS), after which they should register with the EASE authentication system and then self register in the normal way.

Generation of guest accounts be any member of staff replaces the "Authorised Administrator" mechanism used upto the end of 2007.
